Julie Duncan

The 2014 Great American Conference Coach of the Year, Julie Duncan, begins her 12th season after becoming school’s fifth head coach March 11th, 2009. She comes into the 2020 season with a 82-124-8 overall record.

Duncan helped lead the Crimson Storm to the school's third consecutive appearance in the GAC Tournament in 2016 and its first Great American Conference Championship in 2014. SNU hosted the GAC Tournament in 2014 where it finished as the runners-up.

In the 2012 season, SNU competed in the Great American Conference for the first time and finished second. The Storm then won the NCCAA Central Region Tournament and finished as the NCCAA Naitonal Runners-Up.

In 2011, Duncan nearly won her second Sooner Athletic Conference title as SNU won its first 10 games in SAC play before falling in its last game of the regular season. The Storm finished 15-4-1 overall and 10-1 in the conference and had the NAIA's leading goal scorer in Jackie Acevedo. Acevedo is currently playing for the Portland Thorns FC and Mexico's National Team.

The Storm reached the NAIA National Championship for the fourth time in program history in Duncan's first season in 2009 as SNU finished 17-4-1 (9-1-0 SAC). Southern Nazarene tied for the regular season title and then won the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament title and the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round game before falling in the second round of the national tournament.

Duncan's second season was riddled with injuries as the Storm finished 10-9-1 (6-4-1 SAC), but still reached the semifinals of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament before falling to conference champion Oklahoma City.

Duncan’s coaching career began at Moore High School, where she coached the Moore girl’s soccer program for 17 seasons. Duncan had been the boy’s soccer coach for the six seasons as well, while splitting time as an assistant for the SNU program.

Duncan came to SNU in August of 2002 to help then coach, Patty Naumoska, as an assistant. Duncan stayed on board under Mark Persson, who coached Southern Nazarene for three seasons.

Duncan is a native of Dallas, where she attended Lake Highlands High, graduating in 1984. She then went on to play collegiately at Southern Nazarene from 1993-96. Duncan appeared in 47 games during her SNU career, scoring 31 goals with 15 assists. She is ninth all-time on SNU’s single season points list, posting 37 points during the 1994 season on 15 goals and seven assists. For her career, Duncan is ninth all-time at Southern Nazarene in goals scored and ranks 10th in assists.

As a player, Duncan helped lead SNU to the program’s first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance in 1995. SNU won the Sooner Athletic Conference Championship during the 95 season, posting a 21-3-1 record and won the NAIA Southwest Regional title. At the NAIA Championships, SNU finished third. In her three years playing for SNU, Duncan and Southern Nazarene had a combined record of 51-8-1.

Duncan and her husband, Tommy, reside in Yukon. They have three children: Randi, who played soccer for four years at SNU, Corey, who wrestled at Lindenwood (Mo.) and is the Head Coach for Wrestling at Weatherford (Okla.) High School, and Carri, who currently attends SNU.
